Glass Seder Plates - Orange Seder Plate Hebrew only

Glass Seder Plates - Orange Seder Plate Hebrew only

$250.42

The symbol of the orange in the middle of this seder plate is the perfect addition to a modern seder. Placing an orange on the table symbolizes the trend toward egalitarianism among American Jews. The story is told that over 20 years ago, when women were first beginning to join the rabbinate, Susannah Heschel, author of "On Being A Jewish Feminist" and the daughter of Abraham Joshua Heschel, addressed a Florida congregation on the subject of Jewish women's emerging equality. Afterwards, a man rose in a fury and proclaimed that women belong on the bimah as much as an orange belongs on the seder plate. One could, of course, adopt another more traditional view of the orange, and say that the orange, like an egg, symbolizes life and that its seeds symbolize the hope for redemption. The wording in Hebrew and English on the bevels has been engraved. All the sections of glass are hand cut, wrapped in copper and soldered together to form the shape of this Passover seder plate. Six seder plate bowls included. Size - 10 x 12"
